Beauty in Desolation

June 18, 2011

As I walk along, I generally do what a normal Crossroads Walker does. I pray a lot of Rosaries, Divine Mercy Chaplets, offer up the pains that accompany walking across the country, and walk some more. I also find myself doing a lot of meditating on the beauty of life itself.

The most prevalent thought that comes to my mind while in these deep states of meditation on life is that a lot of the places that we have walked through, if taken with just a single glance, are quite desolate and lifeless! Yes, I admit it! No offense to people from Nevada and Utah, but they were right in dubbing highway 50 as “the loneliest highway in America”. But I’m not here to give your states down the road so to speak, so just bear with me and I will get to the point.

Like I said, at first glance, these places seem to be harsh, desolate and lonely. But I have noticed if you take the time to look, there is beauty in these places that seem forsaken. There is life thriving everywhere! And it is all brought to us by the wonderous power of God!

Now animals and plants are great, but I tend to be  a sucker for the landscape! My favorite times of the day are sunrise and sunset. I feel like these times of the day are like the changing of the guard at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington D.C. Its the times of the day when God gives us a chance to marvel at his great works as they change hands from day to night and night to day. To me, its one of the greatest parts about being alive. As I marvel at these glorious works of art that the Lord has provided, I think to myself that there are going to be children that will never get to see this, due to the evils of abortion and contraception. They will never get the chances to find the true beauty in desolation.

As we continue on our journey’s, as Crossroad walkers, Alumni, benefactors, or average everyday people trying to make it to heaven through the trials and tribulations that the Almighty God sets before us. I pray that each of us will be a voice for the voiceless, a beacon of light in this time of darkness in our nation, and a true testament to the love of Jesus Christ as we usher in a beautiful future. A culture of LIFE!!!!

Take care, and may God bless every one of you.

I wish you had told me when you were in Reno: I’d have been happy to interview you.

Jarrod, you are doing a beautiful thing, standing up for the sanctity of life and God is blessing you along the way with the awesome wonders of His creation. May you continue to stand tall and walk with zeal and fortitude as you work to open the eyes of those you meet along the way to the beauty of all life that God has created. I’m thankful for your perseverence and fervent hope to change hearts. May we indeed strive ever closer to being a culture of life. God bless you all.
