Greetings from Southern Walk 2012!

May 28, 2012

Hello, friends! We’re sorry for not posting a little sooner, but hopefully lapses in blog updates won’t be so sparse from now on.

It’s been a great week so far as a team.  A few of us (Eddie, Don, and Alex) drove the RV out to Los Angeles from the eastern part of the country, so they arrived in our starting city last Tuesday.  Jessica, Matthew, and I all flew in the next day, and our resident priest (Fr. Dan) was already in Los Angeles. We had two more arrivals on Saturday (Keelan and Anthony), and we thought our team was complete.  But we were wrong! Our latest team member, Clifford (Cliff for short), heard us speak at a parish on Saturday night and decided to drop everything to come with us. We’ve already bonded into a little family.

In just one week, we’ve already gone from Los Angeles to our current location in Parker, Arizona.

Both day shift and night shift have had their own challenges to overcome- searing high-desert heat for day shift, and severe blisters/ injuries (and sleep deprivation) for night shift. But even so, the Lord has given us all strength to persevere through this first difficult week with the graces we receive from the Eucharist.

We almost didn’t receive those graces one morning, though… there was a logistical error in planning when we were supposed to leave for the daily mass that we found, and we were going to be an hour late.  But, thanks to Christ’s goodness, we’ve been blessed with an incredible priest on our team and were able to celebrate mass in our RV!

The week was a difficult one to be sure, but it’s only the beginning.  And already we have had so many people ask us about our PRO LIFE shirts- some even stopping to give us donations (whether monetary, or in the form of burritos (yum!). It’s a struggle coming to realize that we’re on God’s time and not our own, but He supplements all our needs (even patience to get over crazy scheduling).  I think I can speak for all of us on SW2012 when I say that I’m pumped to see what the rest of the summer holds! AMDG!

Fr. Dan prepares to celebrate mass in our home, the RV!

Week 1 Night Shift gets stuck in the soft desert sand (thank goodness for friendly motorists who helped get them out!).

Mary steps on serpents’ heads for us, even now! (This is Don and a defeated desert snake.)

Alex serenades us with some lovely ukelele music on the beach at Oceanside, CA.

Rafael from one of our parishes in San Bernadino, CA supports the Pro Life movement by decorating his skateboard with one of our stickers!

We’ve crossed our first border- into Arizona we go!

We found the Crossroads Cafe to celebrate our first border breakfast!
