Pursued by His Sacred Heart

May 29, 2013

This morning, as we searched for a church at which we could attend daily Mass, we stumbled upon Sacred Heart Catholic Church. As we drove up to the church and climbed out of the RV, my teammates let out an exclamation. It was about the fourth Sacred Heart Church we had been to since beginning the walk less than two weeks ago. One of my teammates jokingly said, “It’s like the Sacred Heart is stalking us!” Everybody laughed, but as I entered the church, it struck me how much God pursues us.

Yes, for all people talk about searching for God and striving to get to heaven, we must remember that God also pursues us. And we, if we are only accepting of His love, shall be showered with an abundance of blessings. Today has certainly been proof of that.

When we left the RV park early this morning, we were unsure of where we could attend Mass for the day. Two hours later, in Parker, Arizona, we found the above mentioned Sacred Heart Church. And only a mere five minutes before Mass was scheduled to start! We were so thankful! But God had much more in store for us.

Following Mass, the pastor invited us to stay the night at the rectory, where we could do laundry, use the internet and shower, and enjoy the air conditioning. Then the housekeeper surprised us by making us Mexican food for lunch! Finally, as if that was not enough, a man who brings water jugs for the priest also gave us cases of water and Gatorade! We were astounded by so much generosity! God truly has showered us with blessings!

Surrounded and overwhelmed by so much love and support, how can we not accept it, from the community of Sacred Heart Church, as well as Christ’s own Sacred Heart? He pursues us, or if you would, stalks us, desiring only to wrap us in His love and grant us numerous graces and blessings. And, oh boy, how numerous they are! I have no words to express my thanks, so my prayer is an expression of the heart.
